The Red Sox and Royals pick it up again on Saturday night after the Royals rolled on Friday night 13-2. The Red Sox continue to fade from playoff contention, and you could make a fair case the Royals might beat them again on Saturday. In fact, you can get KC +1.5 at plus money, as of the time of this writing, if you want to play that angle. Still, I am going to target the game total in this one.
We have great hitting weather today in Kansas City; temps will be in the 90s, and a small breeze is blowing out. Still, this is not a ballpark that is known for being hitter friendly. We have two pitchers on the mound who are lesser names, but who are in good form recently. Tanner Houck will be making his third start since spending a couple of months on the IL. He has faced the Dodgers and Astros, and he has held his own. He is still building back up his pitch count, but he should find the Royals’ bats to be quieter than they were last night. KC will turn to Alec Marsh, who has served variously as a long relief guy, a starter and a primary guy after an opener. He has been reasonably successful. His pattern is a fairly predictable: 5 or so innings of work with maybe 3 runs allowed. He faced the Red Sox a month ago, allowing 2 runs in 5 innings in a losing effort.
If both starting pitchers will just do what they normally do, this game should stay safely under. The Royals’ offense isn’t likely to explode again, and the Boston offense hasn’t been that great of late. Here’s to quiet bats on Saturday.
