Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels Picks, Predictions & Odds

Monday is the worst day of the week, but thankfully we have sports to lighten the mood. In fact, today is a great day to bet on MLB. Our attention will be focused on the Boston Red Sox (26-21, fourth in AL East) vs the Los Angeles Angels (25-23, third in AL West) as they begin a three-game series.

With just under 50 games played in the MLB schedule for each organization, we are roughly 25% done with the regular season. Both of these MLB teams have solid records, but the MLB standings are not quite reflecting that.

Unfortunately for these two organizations, they happen to play in perhaps the best divisions in baseball. These three MLB games as the series begins will be important to gain momentum in their respective divisions. With that being said, let’s get ready to make some Red Sox vs Angels picks.

There is no time like the present to make your MLB picks. An important note when looking at the MLB odds is that this is the second time the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels have faced one another.

The Red Sox won three of the four games in their series in April. These three games will be the last time these teams square off in 2023, barring a potential playoff matchup. Let’s check out the odds before we dive into our Red Sox vs Angels picks.

Moneyline: On the moneyline, the Red Sox are given -105 odds, and the Angels have very similar odds at -115.

Spread: When it comes to the spread, the Angels will be given +1.5 (-175) odds and the Red Sox will have to cover -1.5 (+150).

Over/Under Total: Finally, the over/under is set at 9.5 runs on Monday night. Let’s meet the starting pitchers before we can make our Red Sox vs Angels picks.

Boston Red Sox vs Los Angeles Angels

Location of the game: Angel Stadium, Anaheim, CA.

Date & Time: Monday, May 22. 9:38 p.m. EST.

In terms of MLB player stats, this is definitely not the best pitching matchup for the Boston Red Sox. Tanner Houck will take the mound for the Red Sox who traveled from one coast to the other. Boston has key players like Adam Duvall and Justin Turner on the MLB injury report, so a dominant outing from Houck would go a long way.

The RHP is 3-3 with a 5.48 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and has 38 strikeouts through 42.2 innings pitched. Houck is hoping the Boston Red Sox game today goes better than his last three outings, where he allowed a combined 13 earned runs. In the last two games he pitched, Houck only got two runs of support in 10.2 innings pitched. The 26-year-old needs more production from his offense, and he needs to get back on track.

If you have not bought stock for Jaime Barria, now would be the perfect time. Granted, this will be his first start in 2023, as all of his work has come out of the bullpen, but he has done well. Barria is in his sixth season with the Los Angeles Angels and spent his early years as a starter, and has since transitioned to a reliever.

Barria has a 1.96 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and has 21 strikeouts through 23.0 innings pitched. The 26-year-old is set to face off against Houck, who is also 26. May the best 26-year-old win, as Barria looks to improve the Los Angeles Angels standings. With the starting pitchers out of the way, let’s make our Red Sox vs Angels picks.

As the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels are set to battle, get ready for a slug-fest. With the Angels going with a bullpen game, and Tanner Houck struggling, the over will hit.

  • Take over 9.5  (-110) in this one.
  • Both teams are 5-5 in their last 10 games, so there is not really momentum for either side.
