On the other hand, the Flames dined on defeat for the seventh time in their last 10 games with a 4-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche over the weekend. While playing at home can be an advantage, it’s worth noting that Calgary has lost three of its last four games at Scotiabank Saddledome.

Will Bruins’ Streak Continue Tonight?

Winning consecutive games in the NHL is tough, which is why the Bruins’ seven-game winning streak is that impressive. What’s even more mind-blowing is the fact that it’s the fourth time this season that they’ve strung together at least six wins in a row.

There’s hard to find any holes in the Bruins’ game during their streak. On offense, they’re averaging 4.14 goals over their run, scoring five-plus goals in three of those contests.

Instead of just being the top players scoring, the Bruins have been getting goals from the top to the bottom of their lineup. Fifteen different Boston players have found the back of the net over the last seven games with David Pastrnak leading the way with four goals.

Unfortunately, the offensive boom hasn’t helped the Bruins’ power play. Their unit has scored just three times on the last 23 power-play opportunities, equating to a 13.0% success rate. The good news for them is that the Flames have surrendered nine PP goals in their last 10 games, killing just 68.8% of penalties over that stretch.

The Bruins’ defense and goaltending have also been phenomenal lately. They’ve allowed just 12 goals over the last seven games, giving up two or fewer in six contests.

Boston has a great chance of continuing that trend with Linus Ullmark between the pipes after Swayman got last night’s start. Ullmark has won each of his last five starts, backstopping to a 1.58 goals-against average and .947 save percentage in those games.

Can Flames Pull Off the Upset?

Saying that the Flames have been underwhelming this season would be an estimate. Many experts saw them as Stanley Cup challengers during the preseason, but the Flames have toed the line of mediocrity throughout the season instead.

Unfortunately, things haven’t gotten any better as the campaign has progressed. The Flames are just 3-4-3 in their last 10 games, playing an uninspiring brand of hockey along the way.

Calgary has a minus-0.2 goal differential in those contests which isn’t helped by its allowing four-plus goals on six occasions. It doesn’t help that the Flames’ penalty is operating at a 71.0% success rate over that span, allowing nine power-play goals on the last 31 opportunities.

It’s been hard for the Flames to keep pace with the opposition when their best players aren’t living up to their potential. Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri have combined for just three goals over the last 10 games. Even Elias Lindholm — who scored 42 goals last season — only has only scored twice in his last nine games.

It’ll also be interesting to see if Jacob Markstrom can keep the puck out of his own net if he’s the Flames’ starting goalie tonight. The 33-year-old netminder is just 2-5-3 in his last 11 appearances with a 3.60 GAA and .863 SV%. He also allowed four goals on just 27 shots in his last outing against the Bruins.

Having lost three of their last four home games as well, I don’t like the Flames’ chances tonight. Not only do the Bruins have a ton of momentum, but they’re also one of the NHL’s best road teams. They’re firing on all cylinders and it’s hard imagining Calgary slowing Boston down now.

I also recommend taking the over on the 6-goal total. On top of the over being 6-2 in Calgary’s last eight games, it’s also 6-1 in the last seven Bruins vs Flames matchups at Scotiabank Saddledome. They averaged 6.6 goals in those games and even though Boston will have to do most of the heavy lifting tonight, hitting the over is a realistic goal.
