Bundesliga Weekly: Bet on Goals for Eintracht vs Hoffenheim

The 25th matchday of the 2023-24 Bundesliga season will feature various fixtures that are rather one-sided – at least on paper. Second place Bayern Munich will be looking to get back to winning ways in the league with a home match against relegation strugglers Mainz (No. 17), third place Stuttgart will begin the weekend with a home match against Union Berlin (No. 14) whilst Leverkusen will be seeking to retain their 10-point lead atop the Bundesliga with a home match against 13th place Wolfsburg.

However, perhaps the least lopsided match will take place on Sunday afternoon at the Deutsche Bank Park, a match that could have pivotal implications for European football. If you’re planning to bet on German soccer this week, consider turning your attention toward Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Hoffenheim.

Eintracht kicked off 2024 with two 1-0 wins vs. Leipzig and Mainz as well as a 2-2 draw before losing 2-0 at Cologne, where they ended the match with nine men. Since that loss on Feb. 3, each of Eintracht’s last six matches have seen both teams find the back of the net, and we’re backing that trend to continue in our Bundesliga bet picks. Eintracht have struggled for clean sheets in recent weeks, but they nevertheless pose a threat going forward against a Hoffenheim side that has conceded 44 goals after 24 matches, the most amongst the Bundesliga’s top 11 sides.

Hoffenheim sit seventh in the Bundesliga, three points above Werder Bremen and Freiburg, four points behind Eintracht Frankfurt and 10 behind fifth place RB Leipzig. Whilst a seventh-place finish could secure a spot in the Europa Conference League play-offs provided that the DFB-Pokal winner had already finished in the top six, Hoffenheim will be looking to secure an automatic European berth by coming away with a sixth-place finish, rather than relying on Leverkusen to win the cup final.

Can Anyone Stop Maximilian Beier From Scoring?

Germany have been searching for a long-term center forward since Miroslav Klose’s retirement in 2014. They may just have found their answer in Maximilian Beier.

After opening 2024 with a 3-0 loss to Bayern, six of Hoffenheim’s last seven matches have seen both teams find the back of the net, and we’re backing that trend to continue in our Bundesliga betting picks. Hoffenheim have had a penchant for high-scoring fixtures as of late, losing 3-2 at Freiburg, drawing 2-2 at Wolfsburg and closing out February with a shootout in Dortmund.

Ihlas Bebou broke the deadlock after two minutes, but BVB would score two goals in four minutes to turn the tide in their favor within a half-hour. Hoffenheim would respond at the hour-mark, recovering possession at the edge of their own box and breaking in transition, working the ball towards Maximilian Beier on the half-way line.

Beier held off Emre Can before skipping past him and Julian Ryerson and firing a powerful shot from outside the box that careened off Nico Schlotterbeck and into the back of the net. They would show off their counter-attacking nous three minutes later, a quick, lethal passing move that was finished off by Beier as Hoffenheim held on for a 3-2 win.

The 21-year-old striker has scored braces in back-to-back matches. He snapped the deadlock within eight minutes before doubling the lead before the break in a 2-1 home win vs. Werder Bremen, and he’s a surefire addition to your player prop bets. He has found the back of the net in each of his last three away matches, grabbing a goal and an assist at Freiburg before opening the scoring in the sixth minute in their draw at Wolfsburg, and following that up with a brace vs. BVB.

We’re backing Beier to continue his red-hot form for Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side, who have scored 43 goals in 24 matches, the most outside of the Bundesliga’s top five sides.

This has all the makings of a high-scoring affair, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Hoffenheim continue their run of early goals as they look to push for the coveted sixth place. Hoffenheim have not kept a clean sheet in their last 21 matches, whilst each of Eintracht’s last five matches have featured over 2.5 goals.

As far as their head-to-head matchups go, each of Eintracht’s last eight fixtures have seen both teams score and have featured over 2.5 goals whilst each of their last six have featured over 3.5 goals.

If you’re making Bundesliga soccer picks this week, bet on a high-scoring fixture between two teams who are making a strong push for European football.
