Burnley vs Man City prediction and odds ahead of Premier League clash

The new Premier League season kicks-off with former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany returning to the top tier of English football as the Burnley head coach against his former employers whereas Pep Guardiola looks to solidify his team into English football folklore. City are the favourites to win the Premier League title for an unprecedented fourth consecutive time.

The champions are the favourites ahead of their trip at 2/7 with Betfred while the Clarets are 17/2 to produce their first win over City in 17 matches spanning eight years in all competitions and a draw is 9/2. The visitors have an impressive record against their hosts winning the last eight league meetings with an aggregate score of 26-1.

Guardiola will be looking to challenge himself as to how to build on the success last season after City won the treble. The Champions League seemed like a task that would never be completed before their win in Istanbul back in June but with players Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez no longer in the mix, the former Barcelona boss will be looking how to replace them within the squad. The recruitment of Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig and Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea is certainly a step in the right direction.

Kompany's time at Turf Moor could not have gone to a better start after securing promotion last season with Burnley as Championship champions as well as achieve a 101-points tally - joining Leicester City, Newcastle United, Sunderland, Reading and Fulham in the exclusive 100+ points club. His style of play and man-management has been praised despite some setbacks in his first stint as a head coach for childhood club Anderlecht.

Tips

  • Man City to win and both teams to score - 15/8

  • Erling Haaland to score anytime - 8/15

  • Over 2.5 goals - 4/7
