Not all of Toronto's offseason additions are strangers to this rivalry.

While this will be the first chance for players like Tyler Bertuzzi, Ryan Reaves and John Klingberg to inject themselves, Max Domi is no stranger. Domi spent two seasons with the Habs and will get to experience the other side of this Original Six showdown.

Domi and anybody else who has skated in a matchup between these two can attest that anything can happen.

Toronto (-335) is a commanding favourite but that was also the case when it battled Montreal a year ago to begin its campaign, a game the Canadiens won 4-3 thanks to a Josh Anderson goal with 18 seconds remaining.

In fact, Toronto and Montreal split the season series with each squad winning two games a year ago.

The Maple Leafs, however, won the last two meetings of the year by a combined score of 12-2.

There are minimal changes for the Canadiens as they begin this year with most of last season's roster still intact.

Alex Newhook and Tanner Pearson highlight the squad's offseason additions, but the pressure remains firmly on the core of Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky to show this team is heading in the right direction.

Regardless of where these two teams are or project to be in the standings, a win over the other is worth more than two points.
