These factors form the foundation of our Stanley Cup predictions, providing you with insights you can trust.

As we embark on this thrilling journey through the NHL season, we can’t help but wonder which teams stand the best chance of triumphantly lifting Lord Stanley’s Cup?

We’ve got the answer. The winner of his Cup in 2024 is coming from this list!

Way To Early NHL Stanley Cup Predictions

1. Edmonton Oilers

  • 2022/23 Record: 50-23-9 – 109 Points
  • Edmonton Oilers’ odds to win the 2023/24 Stanley Cup are +970

Just think about this for a second. #1 Hyman, McDavid, Brown. #2 Hopkins, Draisaitl, Kane. #3. Janmark, McLeod, Foegele. Nurse & Ceci. Skinner in net. Does that sound as formidable to you as it does to me? I hope so.

Clearly, they’ll improve on a 50-23-9 109 points, 2nd in the Pacific division, second round playoff exit season…right?

Let’s kick things off from the back end, where goaltending can be a real head-scratcher year after year. Oilers fans, you’ve got something special in Stuart Skinner, a bona fide NHL top-tier goalie. He practically saved the 2022 season when it was on the ropes, and you can bet your bottom dollar he’s the linchpin for 2023 as the Oil chase that elusive Cup.

The entire Oilers crew is riding high on hopes and expectations for Skinner in 2023, and personally, I’m convinced he’s going to deliver the goods. (And if, by some slim chance, he falters, Jack Campbell’s got his back!)

But enough about the goalie; let’s talk about the firepower up front in Edmonton. We’ve got a veritable treasure trove of talent, a bunch of hungry and motivated NHL pros. That’s a winning combo right there, and it’s a luxury any team would kill for.

In the roster shuffle, the Oilers welcome Caggiula, Brown, and Pederson while saying goodbye to Bjugstad, Kostin, Shore, and Yamamoto. I mean, we’ve got not one, not two, but four guys who racked up a staggering 83 points or more on this team now! Talk about insanity!

Brace yourselves, folks, because this team is about to unleash an offensive onslaught that’ll make scoring goals look like a walk in the park.

Bouchard and Nurse together is almost unfair to the rest of the league, so the points don’t just stop with the forwards on this team. They’re just hoping that the Barrie-Ekholm trade helps keep the puck out of their net a bit more. It should.

This year, anticipation for the Oilers has skyrocketed to levels we haven’t seen in years! Fans are holding their breath, hoping that this season will be the one where their beloved team truly shines and lives up to all the excitement surrounding them.

Ken Holland, and Jay Woodcroft, the pressure is on.

Just drop the puck already!

2. Los Angeles Kings

  • 2022/23 Record: 47-25-10 – 104 Points
  • Los Angeles Kings’ odds to win the 2023/24 Stanley Cup are +1975

When most teams build a club they look for a top 6 center, and then a mobile puck moving stud defensemen, and then a starting goalie. I think the Kings have all these pieces, and then some. The arrival of Dubois makes this team formidable down the middle. Imagine looking at the lines and seeing Dubois, alongside Kopitar, and Danault. What a headache!

Mikey Anderson, and Drew Doughty are a tough match for any top forward in the NHL as well.

To make a serious playoff push in LA this year, goaltending needs to step up its game. Copley is back in the fold, boasting an impressive 24-6-3 record with a 2.64 GAA from his last 22 outings. Plus, there’s the seasoned pro, Cam Talbot, who inked a one-year deal on July 1st, coming off a solid 17-14-2 record with a 2.93 GAA with the Sens.

Doesn’t that just scream stability to you? Say goodbye to those nightly goalie selection headaches! Now, it’s all about playing the hot hand, rinse, wash, and repeat. It’s going to be a smooth ride for Coach McLellan.

Speaking of McLellan, he’s entering his 4th year in charge of the club. He knows his way around the NHL, and at 55 years young, he’s in the last lap of his contract, but check this out: a rock-solid record of 141 wins, 115 ties, and only 34 losses is pretty damn good. And yes, while those back-to-back first-round playoff losses to the Oilers were a bit of a bump in the road, in my opinion he still knows how to bring it. He’s a good leader of men.

I can see good things happening on the ice in La-La land in 2023. Stay tuned as they write a new chapter in California hockey. They will make a serious run at the Pacific Division title, and if a little lady luck goes their way, they’ll rid themselves of the first year NHL playoff curse.

You asked for a prediction. There it is.

3. Colorado Avalanche

  • 2022/23 Record: 51-24-7 – 109 Points
  • Colorado Avalanche’s odds to win the 2023/24 Stanley Cup are +920

Not too long ago, the Avalanche claimed hockey glory with a Stanley Cup victory, a memory that still burns brightly in the hearts of their loyal fans. Now, after a well-deserved offseason of rest and rejuvenation, they’re gearing up for another thrilling quest for Lord Stanley’s cup.

Jared Bednar, entering his 8th season as head coach, brings stability and vision back to the team. With 51 wins under their belt from the last season, the Avs are on a mission to surpass their 2022 achievements. While they clinched the Central division title, the bitter taste of their first-round loss to the Kraken lingers.

Unlike the year they clinched the Cup, the Avs’ 2023 season concluded on April 30th, affording them more time for recovery and preparation. Fresh bodies and renewed spirits often work wonders, and the Avs intend to kick off the season firing on all cylinders, setting the tone for a nice early season run. Expect fewer injuries this time around, giving them a stronger starting lineup.

The addition of Johansen strengthens their center position, enhancing their overall lineup. With a formidable Top 6, the Avs are poised to rival even the mighty Oilers. Their other offseason acquisitions, including Tatar, Drouin, Colton, and Wood, bolster the team’s depth and firepower.

Two X-factors loom large for the Avs. The return of Landeskog, a linchpin in their success, remains a crucial question. His absence in the playoffs proved to be a significant hurdle. Additionally, the goaltending situation, with Georgiev do they truly know what they’ll get from him in 2022? I think it raises the intriguing possibility of Francouz vying for more starts this season.

The Avs are a team to watch closely. They are poised for a rebound from what they consider a subpar season. With their talent, and a hunger for redemption, they should be on the verge of another fun playoff ride.

4. Carolina Hurricanes

  • 2022/23 Record: 52-21-9 – 113 Points
  • Carolina Hurricanes’ odds to win the 2023/24 Stanley Cup are +920

Get ready for an exciting season with the return of the legendary Rod Brind’Amour for his sixth season as head coach. The Panthers, who finished last season with an impressive record of 52-21-9, are poised for another thrilling NHL run. You might recall their Eastern Conference Final loss to the Panthers last year, but this time, there’s a sense of anticipation in the air.

Will the Hurricanes suffer from a playoff hangover, or will they reload and come out guns blazing once more? With the addition of key players like Orlov, Jones, and DeAngelo, the puzzle pieces are falling into place. Keep an eye on the unrestricted free agents, who are playing their hearts out to secure contracts – it adds an exciting dimension to the team’s roster building.

And don’t forget the return of Svechnikov and the addition of the much-needed Michael Bunting. Alongside Aho, these guys are ready to deliver some knockout punches to their opponents.

One area with some uncertainty is the goaltending position. As we enter the early part of the season, the frontrunner for the goalie spot remains a question mark. Antti Raanta, a fan favorite, is back, alongside Frederik Anderson and Kochetkov.

Since 2018, only a handful of teams have accumulated more regular season points than the Canes, showcasing a winning culture that permeates the team. The expectations are consistently high, and it’s clear that GM Don Waddell means business – they’re in full “win-now” mode. The Hurricanes have made it to the playoffs for five consecutive years, and there’s no indication that this streak will come to an end this season.

Cappers Picks Way To Early 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Predictions —  Coming In At #5. New Jersey Devils

  • 2022/23 Record: 52-22-8 – 112 Points
  • New Jersey Devils’ odds to win the 2023/24 Stanley Cup are +990

As I write this the Devils are undefeated thus far in the young NHL preseason. But, they look good. Really, really good, and they’ve got my attetion.

The Devils had a rollercoaster journey in the last NHL season. They triumphed over the Rangers in the initial playoff round last spring, only to face a sudden defeat by Carolina in the second round. It was a humbling experience, but one from which the Devils have gleaned invaluable lessons. Sometimes, young teams need to hit a speed bump before they can soar, and I firmly believe that’s where New Jersey finds itself in 2023.

With an impressive 112 points, the Devils have set the bar high for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.

The team boasts strong leadership from newcomers like Toffoli, Meier, and Hischier, along with a roster of 20-goal scorers and the emergence of a new 30-goal man in Meier. The Devils proudly showcase one of the NHL’s most formidable top six lineups.

The roster is brimming with youthful talent, painting a bright picture for the future. Players like Alexander Holtz show tremendous promise, and there’s anticipation surrounding Simon Nemec’s potential promotion from the minors. Luke Hughes is poised to make a significant impact, and the goaltending looks solid with the impressive Akira Schmid, who shone brightly during the 2022 playoffs.

This team has its sights firmly set on the NHL Playoffs, and I’m genuinely excited about their prospects for another exhilarating run at the coveted Cup.

6. Las Vegas Golden Knights

  • 2022/23 Record: 51-22-9 – 111 Points
  • Vegas Golden Knights’ odds to win the 2023/24 Stanley Cup are +1200

Here come the reigning NHL Stanley Cup Champions! Doesn’t that just sound incredible? The 2023 Knights operated like a finely-tuned machine, and guess what? The 2024 squad is shaping up to be just as impressive.

Eichel is geared up for another sensational year, alongside the formidable Marchessault, Stone, Stephenson, Karlsson, Barbashev, Kolesar, and Carrier. These guys have become household names, and naturally, expectations are soaring. On the defensive front, the Knights are stacked. Pietrangelo and Theodore form an unshakable foundation for the team.

Meanwhile, Adin Hill is back between the pipes, wealthier and more determined than ever to claim that #1 spot. And let’s not forget about Thompson, who was putting up a solid 21-13-3 record before his injury.

Under the guidance of the four-time series-winning coach, Bruce Cassidy, Vegas boasts an incredibly talented roster. While they might find themselves trailing the Oilers and Avs in the standings for much of the season, this team has the firepower to go toe-to-toe with anyone. Get ready for another thrilling season of Knights hockey!

7. The Wildcard – Seattle Kraken

  • 2022/23 Record: 46-28-8 – 100 Points
  • Seattle Kraken’s odds to win the 2023/24 Stanley Cup are +3700

The Seattle Kraken are embarking on only their third season in the NHL, and the excitement is palpable! Following a historic postseason qualification and their maiden playoff series victory, the team is gearing up for an even more spectacular year ahead.

The Kraken soared from a humble 60 points in their first season to an impressive 100 points in the 2022–23 campaign.

In just two seasons, Seattle has solidified its status as a perennial contender, and it’s all thanks to the brilliant strategy of GM Ron Francis.

Dave Hakstol has scored himself an exciting extension, a clear sign that the team is fully committed to his winning culture in Seattle. In the NHL, he’s undeniably one of the good guys, which makes his success even more satisfying.

As the Western coast teams gear up for an intense year of competition, it’s no secret that the Kraken might find themselves chasing the Oilers and Avalanche, who are considered frontrunners in the NHL. However, here’s the kicker – the Kraken have just as good a shot as any team to go the distance and be contenders when the season reaches its climax.

This team can have an extended run of success for a long time! The sky’s the limit for the Kraken’s young crop of rising stars!

PS. I’m going to give the Maple Leafs some love in this post after giving it some thought. I got a few angry emails from Torontonians telling me I’m off my rocker for not picking the Leafs to win the cup… There you go Toronto, I gave it some thought…
