The Carolina Hurricanes face the New Jersey Devils in Game Four of the Second Round. The Hurricanes won the first two games on their home ice but were embarrassed in Game Three with a four-goal defeat. The Devils meanwhile put together a statement 8-4 Game Three win and look to step up once again on their home ice. The Hurricanes look to take a 3-1 series lead while the Devils hope to even up the series and Game Four should be a great one.

Hurricanes hope defense rebounds in Game Four

The Hurricanes have controlled this series with their offense leading the way, scoring 15 goals in the first three games. Jordan Martinhook, Seth Jarvis, and Jesper Fast have scored five goals and nine assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Jordan Staal, Jesperi Kotkaniemi, and Sebastian Aho have combined for six goals and four assists while defensemen Brett Pesce, Jaccob Slavin, and Shayne Gostisbehere have added one goal and five assists from the point to open up the offense.

The offense has been great but the defense, which allowed only two goals in the first two games, fell apart in Game Three, allowing eight goals in the loss. Slavin, Pesce, and Brent Burns have led the top two pairings but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing the Devils to find open shots on the net at will. In addition, goaltender Frederik Andersen has struggled, allowing six goals on 59 shots, and was replaced by backup Pyotr Kochetkov in Game Three.

Devils hope offense builds off strong Game Three

The Devils are back in the series with their offense stepping up, scoring 10 goals including eight goals in Game Three. Jack Hughes, Michael McLeod, and Dawson Mercer have scored three goals and seven assists to lead the top two lines but the rest of the offense has stepped up as well. Miles Wood, Nathan Bastian, and Ondrej Palat have combined for four goals and two assists while defensemen John Marino and Luke Hughes have added four assists from the point to put the offense over the top.

The offense has been great but the defense has been awful in this series, allowing 15 goals. Jonas Seigenthaler, John Marino, and Dougie Hamilton have led the top two pairings but the rest of the unit has struggled, allowing the Hurricanes to find open shots on the net at will. Additionally, goaltender Vitek Vanecek has struggled, allowing seven goals on only 51 shots.

The Devils made a statement with their Game Three win and look to step up and control the upcoming game from the first period. The Devils, who have scored 10 goals in the series, should pile on the goals with Jack Hughes, Miles Wood, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone and creating open shots with great puck movement. The Devils should limit the Hurricanes' offense with Dougie Hamilton, John Marino, and the rest of the defensive unit creating turnovers in the defensive zone and limiting shots on the net, allowing goaltender Vitek Vanecek to make plenty of big saves. The Devils should win Game Four to even up the series with a strong performance on their home ice.

Both offenses have been remarkable in this series and Game Four should reflect that with both forward units stepping up and finding the back of the net with ease. The Hurricanes, who have scored 15 goals in this series, should pile on the goals with Jordan Martinhook, Seth Jarvis, and the rest of the forward unit carrying the puck into the offensive zone and creating open shots with quick passes. The Devils look to build off an eight-goal game and run up the score with Jack Hughes, Miles Wood, Dawson Mercer, and the rest of the forward unit crashing the net on the rush and creating open shots with effective puck movement while defensemen John Marino and Luke Hughes pick apart the Hurricanes' defense from the point. The Over should cover in a high-scoring game with both offenses stepping up.

Take the Over on 5.5 goals.
