They gave up the eventual winning goal less than 90 seconds later and couldn’t get the equalizer. Antti Raanta made 20 saves for the Hurricanes, in a game where each team had 24 shots on goal, in the loss. Raanta is expected to get the start in goal for this contest.

Against Detroit, Ottawa rode a big second period and used that momentum to earn a victory on the road. Claude Giroux opened the scoring with his ninth goal of the season, on the power play, at 1:57 off assists from Jakob Chychrun and Vladimir Tarasenko. They gave up the equalizer later in the period. In the second period, Ottawa held a 14-7 shot advantage and outscored Detroit 3-0 to take a 4-1 lead at the second intermission. Insiders Status:

Rating:

Carolina comes in off four straight losses, all on the road, and now have to go on the road again to face the Senators. Ottawa has won three of their last four games entering this one and turned in a solid dismantling of the Red Wings on the road in their previous game. The Senators are clicking right now and they have gotten solid goaltending from their duo of Korpisalo and Anton Forsberg. On the flip side, Carolina’s goaltending has been mediocre at best with Raanta and Pyotr Kochetkov each scuffling. The Hurricanes could use Frederik Andersen, who has been out since November 2 with a blood clotting issue and has no timetable for return, between the pipes. With Ottawa having home ice and the better goaltending, give the Senators the upper hand here.

Prediction: Ottawa Senators +116

Full-Game Total Pick

Rating:

Carolina comes into this game having gone over the total in 14 of their 27 games this season. The Hurricanes have posted an average total of 6.56 goals per game this season and that number remains flat at 6.56 goals per contest in their 16 road tilts on the year. Ottawa has seen the over post an 11-8-3 mark in their 22 games in relation to the total this season entering Monday night. The Senators have posted an average total of 6.68 goals per game on the season though that number drops slightly to an average of 6.63 goals per game as the home team. Look for this game to wind up falling short of the total.
