Of all the top players on the ATP Tour at the moment, it’s fair to say that Ruud had one of the most consistent years in 2022. Just last season, Ruud achieved a career-high ranking of number 2 and he made two Grand Slam finals. Not only that, but he also made the final of the ATP Finals in Turin before losing to Novak Djokovic. So clearly, the man is a top contender if you look at the broader scope of things.

As for his odds of winning the Australian Open, here is the latest price:

Despite being seeded 2 in the draw this time around, his odds are all the way down at 34.00. This is the case because he didn’t perform great at the United Cup just a few weeks back. And he then lost in the opening round of the recent ASB Classic to Dere. Therefore, the bookies have clearly decided that Ruud isn’t in title-winning form ahead of the Australian Open.

As the 2nd seed in the men’s singles draw, Ruud has been given a comfortable start on paper. He is down to play Machac, who is ranked all the way down at 115 in the world. This is clearly a huge difference in terms of the rankings of these guys. And this alone suggests that Ruud will take the win here without too much trouble.

We just hope that the recent first-round exit in New Zealand hasn’t dented Ruud’s confidence too much ahead of this Grand Slam.

Casper Ruud isn’t a player who pulls up short with injuries on a frequent basis. And despite his first-round loss to Dere in New Zealand, it doesn’t appear that this was due to any injuries. Therefore, since we have no information relating to confirmed injuries, it’s normal to assume that he is injury free at the moment.

Casper Ruud is still in the early stages of his career in terms of his time at the top of the game. With that said, you might not be surprised to see that he first appeared at the Australian Open in 2017, just six years ago. Ruud was still a teenager at the time, and he won a couple of qualifying rounds before losing in R3 of the qualifiers. He then backed this up by making the 2nd round of the Australian Open in 2018 on just his second attempt, which is commendable.

Unfortunately, due to a poor ranking, he was in the qualifiers again in 2019. And this time around, he lost his opening qualifying match, which was no doubt very disappointing. Ruud then returned to the main draw in 2020 but he lost in the first round this time. And in 2021, this was where he produced his best at the Australian Open by making the 4th round. This is still his personal best going into 2023 as he didn’t play the 2022 event due to injury.

That’s clearly a big shame given that this was the season where he made two Grand Slam finals. And since he made the final of the US Open last year, which is a tournament that has similar conditions to Melbourne, this bodes well for Ruud’s chances in 2023.

Ruud Australian Open 2023 Prediction – 4th round or quarters

If you check the men’s singles draw it’s clear that Casper Ruud is placed at the very bottom. This is fairly standard if you are the number 2 seed, which he was given once Carlos Alcaraz withdrew from the tournament. And if you look ahead at his section, things get pretty tough from the 3rd round onward. To clarify, Ruud would likely play Davidovich Fokina in the 3rd round, and this Spaniard can be on fire at times.

But assuming Ruud gets the better of the Spaniard, he would once again play Berrettini. Bear in mind Berrettini beat him fairly easily at the United Cup. However, if he did produce a big win against Berrettini and make it into the quarters, he would be on track to play Taylor Fritz. At the moment, Fritz is in great form following his success at the United Cup.

So for us, it’s likely that Ruud will crash out to either Berrettini or Fritz this year. We also believe this to be the case because Ruud hasn’t been performing great in recent weeks. Then again, if he does find form and win some tight matches early on, he might surprise us all.
