Champions League permutations: Who can qualify for last 16?

We’re at the business stage of the Champions League groups as teams scramble to punch their ticket to the last 16.

The title holders, Manchester City, have already guaranteed their safe passage to the knockout rounds and Premier League rivals Arsenal are hoping to join them as soon as possible.

Manchester United prop up their group, although all is not lost as victories in their remaining two games would guarantee their place in the last 16, while Newcastle are relying on other results to stand any chance of progressing after PSG’s controversial late penalty denied them a famous win at Parc des Princes.

Wednesday, November 29: Galatasaray v Man Utd, Bayern Munich v Copenhagen

Bayern Munich have been confirmed as Group A winners.

Manchester United need to avoid defeat to Galatasaray keep alive their hopes of progressing to the last 16.

Group B

Wednesday, November 29: Sevilla v PSV Eindhoven, Arsenal v Lens

Arsenal will qualify for the knockout stage if they get the better of Lens, while a draw would be enough if PSV fail to beat Sevilla.

Group C

Wednesday, November 29: Real Madrid v Napoli, Braga v Union Berlin

Real Madrid have qualified for the last 16 and will be confirmed as Group C winners if they avoid defeat to Napoli.

Napoli will join Los Blancos in the knockout stage with a win at the Bernabeu, although they will progress if Braga are beaten by Union Berlin.

Group D

Wednesday, November 29: Benfica v Inter Milan, Real Sociedad v RB Salzburg

Inter Milan and Real Sociedad have qualified for the last 16.

Group E

Wednesday, December 13: Atletico Madrid v Lazio, Celtic v Feyenoord

Atletico Madrid will progress as Group E winners if they avoid defeat to Lazio, who need to win to top the table.

Feyenoord are confirmed to finish in third and drop into the Europa League.

Group F

Wednesday, December 13: Borussia Dortmund v PSG, Newcastle v AC Milan

Borussia Dortmund will progress as Group F winners if they avoid defeat to PSG.

Paris Saint-Germain will qualify for the last 16 if they beat Dortmund or Newcastle v AC Milan ends in a draw.

Newcastle need to beat Milan and hope PSG fail to win in Germany to continue in the Champions League, while a draw would be enough to finish in third and drop into the Europa League.

Group G

Wednesday, December 13: Crvena Zvezda v Man City, RB Leipzig v Young Boys

Manchester City have won Group G and RB Leipzig are confirmed in second.

Crvena Zvezda need to beat City to stand any chance of pipping Young Boys to third place.

Group H

Wednesday, December 13: Antwerp v Barcelona, Porto v Shakhtar Donetsk

Barcelona need a point to be guarantee top spot in Group H, although a draw between Porto v Shakhtar Donetsk would mean they cannot be overhauled at the summit.

Porto will qualify for the last 16 if they avoid defeat to Shakhtar, who need to claim all three points. The team that misses out will drop into the Europa League.
