Charlotte FC Sweep the Defending MLS Cup Champions

Charlotte FC became the first expansion team to sweep the reigning MLS champions after their win at home against New York City FC. Daniel Ríos scored the opening goal in the 6th minute. Christian Fuchs was sent off in 56th minutes for an elbow. Charlotte won the match despite having a man down. Charlotte have struggled to get points in matches with the odds against them. They are still in playoff contention. The team still feels there is everything to fight for in their remaining matches. It was another positive step in growth of the young team. New coach Christian Lattanzio stressed that the team needed to be quicker, sharper and more aggressive when they had the ball.
