Cheltenham Festival Prices: Comparing Costs To Other Events

There’s nothing quite like a day out at a big sporting event, whether it’s a day at Cheltenham Festival, or a day at the a Premier League match. However, attending these events is never usually cheap, taking ticket prices, food, drink and more into consideration.

With Cheltenham week here, we’re taking a look at roughly how much it would cost for a day out there, and how this compares to other famous sporting events in the country.

Cheltenham Festival Prices

Ticket Prices  –

Prices of tickets vary at the Cheltenham Festival, depending on which enclosure your ticket is for. Tickets can range from £40 all the way up to £770, with the latter getting you a restaurant package for the day.

There’s the Best Mate Enclosure, Tattershalls Enclosure, Club Enclosure, and the Guinness Grandstand. Then, an option for a restaurant package, which costs a lot more than regular Enclosure tickets.

Food and Drink

All major sporting events see prices rise on things like food and drink, and Cheltenham Festival is no different. Last year, a pint of Guinness came in at £7, whilst a pint of Carling was £6.90. If you didn’t fancy getting a pint, then a glass of wine was over £8, with a double gin and tonic coming in at £14.

There’s rumours that prices are expected to rise again for this year’s Cheltenham Festival, which would cause even more anger on social media than last year.

As for fans getting peckish, it’s not cheap for food either. Loaded fries last year cost £9, with a burger coming in at between £11 and £13, depending on what kind you was after.

Other Costs

There’s an array of other things available for purchase at the Cheltenham Festival, including merchandise and then of course betting. If one was to bet £5 on every race, it’d cost £35 with 7 races every day and of course if you wanted to up the stakes, it would cost more – so it’s in the individual’s hands.

Total Cost

Including tickets, betting, food and drink it costs on average around £150-£200 for a day at Cheltenham. This total price is if you were going there to have at least a few alcoholic drinks, a bet on every race and entry to the racecourse.

How Does It Compare To Other Events?

Arsenal Premier League Match

An adult ticket to an Arsenal Premier League match could set you back anywhere between £30 and £130, depending on different categories.

If you wanted to buy a pint at an Arsenal game, it would set to back £6.60 for a Camden Hells Lager. However, Arsenal have an offer called “Fans First”, where they reduce prices of beers to £3.95. The Fans First offer is only valid 60+ minutes before kick-off.

There’s a wide range of food available at the Emirates, with a pie costing £4.85. You can also buy hot dogs, which cost between £6 and £8, depending on toppings added.

Total Cost

A day out at an Arsenal game could cost you just £30 or a little more depending on the price of your chosen ticket. But, the price will go up if you was to have a pint or two at the game, and a bite to eat.

For a ticket, two pints and a hot dog it would cost roughly £60. Further purchases such as merchandise, match-day programmes and other things would make the cost higher, but it’s all up to the individual.

Six Nations Match At Twickenham

A ticket to an England Six Nations game will cost around £40, but can rise to up to £130 per person, depending on what category, or where you’re seated in the stadium.

If you wanted to buy a pint at Twickenham, then it will cost you an initial £1 for a plastic souvenir cup, then £5 every time you want a refill pint. Each time you take back your cup, it’s replaced with a new one and a new pint is poured.

Looking for something to eat at Twickenham? There’s a wide range of different cuisines available to try due to the amount of individual stalls on offer. However, burgers and hot dogs cost between £4 and £7 depending on what you have.

Total Price

Much like a Premier League match at Arsenal, depending on food and drink consumed, you could be spending up to £60 for a day out at the rugby.

Wimbledon Tennis Match

Wimbledon is one of the biggest tennis events of the year, and if you wanted a ticket for a day there it would cost between £27 and £155. That’s if all courts are in use, and that only lasts 8 days of the 14 day event, before the later stages see increased prices.

You can get a grounds ticket for £27, and if you want court-side seats then the prices will vary, depending on what court you’re wanting to sit at.

As for food and drink, it’s fairly pricey. A pint will set you back an initial £7.50, and then £6.50 when you return for another with the same cup. It’s similar to the rugby pricing on beers, where the customer pays for a plastic cup to be reused. A glass of Pimms will cost around £9, and if you want to stick with the Wimbledon theme, you can purchase an iconic portion of strawberries and cream for just £2.50.

If you wanted to eat something more filling, you can get a Greek ‘Gyros’ for £10.50, or chicken and chips for £11.

Total Price

Whilst ticket prices vary, if you were to get a grounds ticket (cheapest option), with a drink or two and food, then you could be spending up to £50 to £60 on your day out at Wimbledon.

Super Bowl LVII

In one final comparison of prices at a big sporting event, we’re taking a look at how much it costed for a ticket, food and drink at this year’s Super Bowl.

If you thought a day at Cheltenham was expensive, then be prepared to be shocked at the prices for Super Bowl LVII.

On average, a ticket for the event set back individuals around $8,000, yes eight thousand dollars. The matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles was the most expensive Super Bowl of all time.

And, if there was any money left in bank accounts, fans could purchase food and drink. A single can of Bud Light was $17.50, equivalent to around two Guinness’ at Cheltenham. As for food, a hot dog would set back Super Bowl fans an eye-watering $12.50.

The prices for food and drink almost doubled from a regular NFL game, meanwhile tickets went up an incredible amount for the biggest game of the year.

Total Price

Expensive, very expensive. If you wanted to spend a day at the Super Bowl, it’ll cost you roughly $8,100, depending on amount of food and drink consumed, amongst other things like merchandise.
