Cheltenham Trials Day ON as it stands with racecourse 'free from frost'

CHELTENHAM Trials Day is ON as it stands with the racecourse currently 'free from frost'.

An inspection of the surface was brought forward from noon on Friday, confirmed clerk of the course Jon Pullin.

The Trials Day - the final meeting before the Festival - is set to be a cracker with nine races including the rearranged Clarence House Chase taking centre stage.

A precautionary inspection will be held at 7.30am on Saturday morning just in case.

Clerk of the course Pullin said: "Temperatures remained positive overnight, and the ground has continued to thaw with the racing line now free from frost.

"The Going is currently Soft, Good to Soft in places on the New Course and Good to Soft, Soft in places on the Cross Country Course.

"Frost covers will be deployed today on the New Course in order to protect the ground from tonight’s forecast where temperatures could drop to -2C, therefore there will be a further Precautionary Inspection at 7:30am tomorrow (Saturday 28th January).

"Due to significant improvements on course, the contingency plans to restage the raceday on Sunday 29th January are no longer in place."

Punters are in for a treat with Energumene taking on Edwardstone in the rearranged Clarence House.

Grand National hero Noble Yeats will also take on the likes of Protektorat in the Cotswold Chase - which looks a key trial on the road to Gold Cup glory.

The first race on Trials Day is due off at 11.40am and Sun Racing will bring you all the news and best tips before that.
