Chi-Town Trying to Play Spoiler

The Chicago Blackhawks have been struggling to get going offensively as they are dead last in the sport with 2.45 goals per game and in the role of trying to play spoiler at the end of the season. They are coming off a 6-1 road loss against the Colorado Avalanche to extend their losing streak to three games. Forward Tyler Johnson talked after the game about their lack of offense as of late.

“It’s definitely tough right now, it’s a little embarrassing. We have to play a lot better. We’re not sticking to our structure, not sticking to our system and kind of just out there right now. And we’ve got to compete and play a lot harder for each other.”

The team has also been one of the worst on the defensive side of the ice as they are 25th in the league allowing 3.56 goals per game so far. Alex Stalock will be getting the start in the net and he is 9-10-1 with 2.84 goals allowed per game with a .915 save percentage.

Going Wild

The Minnesota Wild have been struggling on the offensive side of the ice as they are 23rd in the league with 2.90 goals per game thus far. They are coming off a 5-4 road loss against the Philadelphia Flyers last time out and coach Dean Evason spoke about the difference between the teams

“We weren’t very good. They were good. We knew they were playing well, they played well tonight. We were loose. We were not firm, turnovers, it didn’t look like our hockey club.”

Their defense has been one of the best in the sport as they are currently third in the NHL with 2.67 goals per game allowed. Filip Gustavsson will be starting inside of the net here and is doing extremely well himself as he has an 18-9-5 record with a save percentage of .932 percent and 2.04 goals given up per game heading into this matchup.

Rating:

The ability to take advantage of the power play is critical to success and there is a massive difference as Chicago is 31st with a 16.2 power play percentage while Minnesota is 13th in hockey with a 21.9 power play percentage. There is a reason why the Blackhawks have struggled against the Wild and that is because the Wild are the better team. Looking at their records, the Blackhawks are 10-23-3 on the road this year while the Wild are a dominant 22-11-3 inside of the Xcel Energy Center. The Blackhawks have lost each of the previous seven games against the Wild so go with the Minnesota Wild to cover the puck line in this matchup.

Take the Wild with the puck line.

Prediction: Minnesota Wild -1.5

Rating:

The defenses have been struggling lately as Chicago is allowing five goals in their previous three games while Minnesota is giving up 3.8 goals in their last five games. Neither team has been doing well in terms of killing penalties as the Blackhawks are 22nd in the sport with a 76.1 penalty kill percentage while the Wild are 14th with an 80.2 kill percentage.

The over has hit in four of the last five Blackhawks games following a loss of 3+ goals as well as in the previous four games against Central Division opponents so go with the over here.
