Chicago Cubs vs. Cleveland Guardians Prediction 7-2-23 MLB Picks

The Cleveland Guardians and the Chicago Cubs meet in MLB interleague action from Wrigley Field on Sunday. Let’s dive into the odds, starting pitching matchup, history and make a prediction for this game.

Odds

Cleveland is listed as a -115 road favorite while the Cubs are -105 home underdogs.

Starting Pitching Matchup

Aaron Civale will start for the Guardians and is 2-2 with a 3.18 ERA and 33 strikeouts this season. Jameson Taillon will start for the Cubs and is 2-6 with a 6.90 ERA and 53 strikeouts this season.

Matchup History

Cleveland’s 6-0 win over the Cubs on Saturday snapped the Cubs’ two-game win streak in this head-to-head matchup.

Trends

Cleveland is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record and 2-9 in their last 11 interleague road games while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 Sunday games. Chicago is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 5-1 in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 7-3 in their last 10 home games.

Pick

I’m leaning towards the Guardians here. I thought that Chicago’s best chance at a win of any of the three games in the set was Saturday with Marcus Stroman pitching, and that didn’t happen. Do I love the pitching matchup on either side here? No, but the Guardians feel a bit more trustworthy in this spot with Civale going as Jameson Taillon has not been easy to watch for much of the season. Not a game I’m rushing to bet, but I’ll look at the Guardians here.
