Churchill Downs Inc. agrees to buy Ellis Park for $79 million
Churchill Downs Inc. agrees to buy Ellis Park for $79 million. The deal is contingent on approval by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. Ellis park celebrated 100 years of racing this year. CDI plans to build a track extension and entertainment venue in Owensboro. It expects its investment in Henderson and Daviess counties to be approximately $75 million over the next year in addition to the purchase price. If change of control is approved, the transaction will close shortly. It is expected to keep more Kentucky-bred horses and Kentucky trainers in their home state.
