KHRC Greenlights $79M Ellis Sale to CDI
KHRC approves the sale of Ellis Park to the gaming company Churchill Downs, Inc. (CDI). The transaction is expected to close in the near future. CDI already owns Churchill Down Racetrack and Turfway Park in Kentucky. Ellis is the state's only Thoroughbred venue in western Kentucky and is contiguous with Indiana. It was bought by CDi in 1998 but it was later sold. It's currently CDIs second attempt at owning Ellis. The advent of historical horse race gaming has boosted its stature as a business opportunity. Other tracks in Ky. have come together to share gaming revenues from the Ky Th thoroughbred Development Fund with Ellis to shore up year-round racing statewide.
