Coco Gauff Surges To Top of Women’s US Open Betting Odds

There is a new betting favorite to win the women’s US Open. Coco Gauff, 19, is favored to capture the first Grand Slam title of her career this Sunday. Following a 6-0, 6-2 win over Jelena Ostapenko on Tuesday, Gauff’s US Open odds shifted to +160 at BetUS.

Gauff opened the US Open with the third-best odds to win the final Grand Slam event of the year. At +650 odds, Gauff trailed Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek. Swiatek’s +225 US Open odds were the best on the women’s side.

However, the Polish star suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Ostapenko. In an uncharacteristically poor showing, Swiatek was ousted from the US Open with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-6 loss in the Round of 16.

Despite a heavy favorite to win the third set, the world No. 1 women’s tennis player collapsed against Ostapenko. And, with that loss, there will be a new women’s US Open champion after Swiatek failed to defend her title.

Going into the Round of 16, Swiatek remained the favorite to win the tournament. Swiatek’s loss opened up the door for Gauff and Sybalenka to seize the top spot in the US Open odds at online betting sites.

Gauff Bypasses Sybalenka and Swiatek For Best US Open Odds

With Swiatek losing, the consensus was that the woman with the second-best pre-tournament odds would be the new favorite. However, Gauff’s stardom has swept across the US Open over the last week.

At BetUS, there has been more money coming in on Gauff than Sybalenka. The winner of the 2023 Australian Open, Sybalenka, has +175 odds to win the US Open on Sunday. The 25-year-old native of Minsk, Belarus, is currently ranked No. 2 in the world.

Due to Swiatek’s loss, Sybalenka is poised to take the No. 1 spot in the WTA rankings after the US Open. Gauff is expected to edge up from No. 6 in the world.

Gauff has been in impressive form through the quarterfinals. She is responsible for stopping Caroline Wozniacki’s return to tennis. Wozniacki was rolling before running into Gauff in the Round of 16.

Wozniacki captured the second set, but it wasn’t enough in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win for Gauff. The surging American made it look too easy in her latest match. Ostapenko had nothing left in the tank against Gauff following the win over Swiatek.

All of that said, the hottest woman at the US Open might actually be Sybalenka. Gauff has been in the spotlight on home soil, but Sybalenka has yet to lose a set. The Belarusian is a perfect 8-0 after a 6-1, 6-3 victory over the No. 13 seed, Daria Kasatkina.

Gauff Wins First Singles Masters 1000 Event

On August 20, Gauff won her first Masters 1000 event at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati. Gauff’s run to the Western & Southern Open title included an upset over Swiatek. In her semifinal match, Gauff outlasted Swiatek in three sets, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4.

The win provided Gauff with a considerable amount of confidence for the final match and the US Open. She finished off the Western & Southern Open with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Karolina Muchová.

It was the second WTA tournament title for Gauff in three attempts. Two weeks earlier, at the Citi Open, Gauff didn’t lose a set en route to a 6-2, 6-2 win against Maria Sakkari.

In other words, Gauff’s hot streak did not start at the US Open. Entering her rematch versus Muchová in the semifinals, Gauff has won 16 of her previous 17 matches.

What has changed in her game compared to earlier this year?

Gauff has credited the addition of coach Brad Gilbert to her team. Gilbert, 62, joined Pere Riba on Gauff’s coaching staff shortly before Wimbledon. With a newfound sense of confidence, Gauff has approached her matches much differently since Gilbert’s arrival.

“I think now I’m going in with a lot more confidence,” Gauff stated. “I feel like no matter the score line in the match, I can be able to problem-solve and troubleshoot my way out. I know I can win matches not playing my best game now. I think I wasn’t playing my best in every single match in D.C. and Cincinnati, it’s impossible. I do feel I’m much more confident in my B or C game.”

Gauff’s confidence has been on full display through the US Open and is rubbing off on bettors. With the crowd behind her at Flushing Meadows, Gauff most certainly owns a home-court advantage over her competition.

The relationship between Gauff and Gilbert has gone well since he was hired to join her camp. However, there was a tense showdown between the two during her victory over Wozniacki.

During a strong push from Wozniacki in the second set, Gauff turned to her coach to tell him to stop talking. Seated in the front row at Arthur Ashe Stadium, the 19-year-old had enough of his comments and informed him to be quiet.

Gauff would ultimately lose the second set, 6-1, but mowed Wozniacki down in the third set to pick up the win in the Round of 16 match. Following the match, Gauff was asked about the confrontation with Gilbert. She chalked it up as a “stress reaction”.

“Sometimes I tell them to chill a little bit,” Gauff claimed in the post-match interview. “Because I like to think and figure out matches my own way”.

With a trip to the US Open finals on the line, Gauff’s moneyline odds are -190 to defeat Muchová on Thursday. If Gauff wins, she will advance to Saturday’s final at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
