College Football Playoff Rankings Reaction: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Tennessee was knocked out of the College Football Playoff rankings. The rest of CFP top five survived and advanced. There are two games to go for six of seven remaining contenders.

LSU is ranked No. 5 ahead of USC at No 6. The committee likes what it's seeing from LSU this season. South Carolina knocked Tennessee out of the top 10. There are questions about the strength of defense of South Carolin's defense. It's possible that the committee will pick LSU as the SEC champion. They will also pick the national champion if they beat Georgia in the championship game.

Clemson is still in the top 10, but it's behind Alabama. The Tigers have two better opportunities ahead than Alabama's game against Auburn. Clemson's best path to the playoff would include losses by Michigan, TCU and USC. The selection committee clearly is not sold at this stage.

The Wolverines are No. 3 but a solid underdog at Ohio State. Michigan's non-conference schedule can be disqualifying. Ohio state has a better schedule strength thanks to a season-opening victory over Notre Dame. The Buckeyes could afford a loss more than the Wolverine.
