The Orioles signed 14 players from the Dominican Republic, 11 from Venezuela and one each from Colombia and Cuba on Sunday. Mike Elias and Perez are trying to improve the organization's international amateur pipeline. Almeyda moved to the Caribbean at the age of 15 to help his grandmother, who has Alzheimer's disease. He's a good player with a quick bat and a strong arm. He comes from a stable family. Elias was hired as general manager in 2018 and he hired Perez two months later. They have mutual connections in local baseball circles.
