We examine a rivalry clash in our Cowboys-Eagles predictions based on the best NFL odds from our best sports betting apps.

Although the Philadelphia Eagles sit atop the NFL standings with a 7-1 record, wins haven’t come easily in 2023 for the defending NFC champs. Philly faced a seven-point deficit during Week 8 in the fourth quarter before rallying to beat the Washington Commanders.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys have already notched four 20-plus-point wins in 2023, including a 43-20 thrashing of the Los Angeles Rams in Week 8. The Cowboys hope to ride that momentum into Sunday’s clash and pull closer to the Eagles for the top spot in the NFC East.

Cowboys vs. Eagles prediction

The Eagles haven’t been as dominant in 2023 as in 2022. They've struggled twice over the past five weeks to beat the lowly Washington Commanders and lost to the New York Jets.

However, let’s not forget that the Eagles still own the NFL’s best record entering Week 9 with a sparkling 7-1 mark. Philly’s offense ranks third in scoring and total yards, even with Jalen Hurts reportedly playing through a knee injury. The unit is capable of hurting opponents on the ground and through the air. The Eagles have also been solid defensively while boasting the league’s top run defense and giving up the eighth-fewest yards overall.

Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys come into this matchup on a high after routing the Los Angeles Rams 43-20 in a game that was even more lopsided than the final score suggests. But while Dallas owns an impressive 5-2 record and is allowing fewer than 180 passing yards per game, a lot of the Cowboys’ eye-catching stats have been compiled in blowouts of the Rams, Jets, New York Giants, and New England Patriots. The Cowboys allowed four touchdown passes to Brock Purdy during a 42-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers during the team's toughest test of the season.

This is just the fifth time in the last three years the Eagles have been favored by a field goal or less at Lincoln Financial Field. Philly notched a double-digit win in each of those games, including a resounding 31-17 victory over the Miami Dolphins in Week 7. I’ll comfortably back the Eagles to pad those stats at this price.

All of our best sportsbooks are listing Philadelphia as a field-goal favorite, but DraftKings has shaded its juice slightly toward the Cowboys, giving Eagles backers the chance to get a reduced -108 price.

Interestingly, FanDuel is shading its line the other way, charging a -115 premium to lay three points with Philly.

Philadelphia was a 3.5-point favorite on the lookahead lines, but the Eagles reopened at a heavily juiced -2.5 at some of the best sports betting sites after Week 8. The spread quickly moved to Philly -3 and has sat there throughout the week.

There’s also been balanced action on the total, which has bounced back and forth between 46 and 47. The Over has hit in each of the last five meetings between these NFC East rivals, but the Under is 6-2 in Dallas’ last eight road games and 7-3 over the Cowboys’ previous 10 as an underdog.
