Dallas can score big with the next World Cup
The World Cup begins Sunday in Qatar. North Texas is interested in hosting the next World Cups. The Dallas bid committee wants to host at least four World cups and the headquarters for FIFA. It is planning to give World cup ticket holders free transportation to stadiums on event day. The 1994 World Championship in the U.S. led to the growth in soccer fandom in North America. There are 16 metropolitan areas in America that will host the 2026 World Championships. FIFA will announce the details next year. Dallas voters approved a proposition to increase hotel taxes and direct some of that revenue to upgrade the fairgrounds.
