Darley Dewhurst Stakes: guide and predicted finishing order

Several leading contenders for the 2000 Guineas will clash in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. Chaldean is seeking a fourth successive win. Sakheer is absent. Isaac Shelby, Naval Power and Nostrum are the other contenders.

Angus McNae won his first two races four months apart. He finished fourth in the National Stakes. Two of the last three winners of Darley Dewhurst Stake went on to win the 2000 Guineas.

Frankel colt won the Champagne Stakes last time. Frankie Dettori will partner Frankel again. Frankely has between 3lb and 11lb on his rivals.

Isaac Shelby is back in action after a three-month break. He was beaten by Victory Dance in the Group Two Superlative Stakes on the July Course. Nostrum put Victory dance in his place on his most recent start.

Nostrum is trained by Charlie Fellowes. He won the Group Two Vintage Stakes at Goodwood in July. Nostrum finished last in the National Stake at The Curragh.

Sheikh Mohammed has spent fortunes on yearlings at Tattersalls this week. Naval Power has won four races this year. He was workmanlike when scoring over a mile at Haydock last time and won impressively in a slick time over 7f at Ascot.

Nostrum won the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Sandown. Nostrum is owned by Sir Michael Stoute. Stout had his only Dewhirst success in 1986. Ajdal won in the Derby and July Cup.

After seven weeks off, Paul & Oliver Cole's horse needs to raise his game for the Darley Dewhurst Stakes. It will be his first start beyond 6f.

Nostrum is the favourite to win the Juddmonte Farms. Chalden, Naval Power, Isaac Shelby, Aesop’s Fables, Marbaan and Royal Scotsman are also in the running.
