Dewhurst Stakes: Views from connections

Juddmonte's colts Chaldean and Nostrum are both running in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday. The race could decide the champion two-year-old and often acts as a guide to the following spring's 2000 Guineas. Nostrums is 8-1 favourite and Chaldeans 14-2. Andrew Balding's Chaldo has won three races since his debut. Sir Michael Stoute's Nostra has shown huge ability in two starts. The operation's racing manager Barry Mahon hails a sporting decision to run the two horses against one another.

Charlie Appleby has saddled both Pinatubo and Native Trail to win Dewhurst Stakes in recent years. This year he relies on Naval Power, who is unbeaten four from four. Aidan O'Brien has won this race five times in the last 10 years, but his only representative is Aesop's Fables. He suffered defeat at odds-on over the same track and trip in Vincent O’Brien National Stake last month.

Ryan Moore has ridden both Nostrum and Chaldean this season. Nostrums won the Dewhurst Stakes last time. Charlie Fellowes’ Marbaan has had a disappointing run in the National Stake. Flying Scotsman and Isaac Shelby are unbeaten in this year's race. The field is rounded off by Paul and Oliver Cole”s Richmond St. scorer Flying Scottish.
