Nathan Aspinall v Jonny Clayton

Nathan Aspinall faces Jonny Clayton for the third time in 2023 with the Englishman trailing 1-2 in wins over his Welsh opponent. Let’s see what value we’re turned up in the markets for tonight’s match which will see the winner walking off with a cool £200k in his back pocket.

Nathan Aspinall Total 180s – Under 11.5

Nathan Aspinall is known as one of the most regular throwers of 180s and over the tournament has landed 37 so far. But the target of 12 for this game seems to be a little to high to achieve as he’s not scored more than that as of yet in the Matchplay tournament.

Over his matches so far, from round one to the final, he scored 8, 8, 10 and one 180s in all so he’s only come close once. His great strength lies in getting high scores quickly while Jonny Clayton is better at finishing faster, or in plainer English, he’s better at getting the Doubles needed to finish a set than Aspinall. But for this bet the figures look good so we’re backing Aspinall to have Under 11.5 180s in all.

Combo – Nathan Aspinall Most 180s, High Checkout & Win Match

Aspinall has, as mentioned above, landed 37 180s across the tournament to Clayton’s paltry 18 in all so the first leg of this Combo should look after itself. Clayton does do better on the stat regarding Checkouts and is the favourite to win but we have to remember that the overall record between the pair is five wins for the Englishman and six for the Welshman with one being declared a draw. This isn’t going to be the easy game for Clayton that the market odds are suggesting.

Aspinall has the beating of Clayton in him and we see him powering ahead thanks to his talent for chalking up high scores very quickly. As such he’s going to have better chances of making those important Checkouts and we think he’ll draw level on the career stats and make it 6-6-1.

Remember too that Aspinall is from only an hour down the road and will have a boisterous crowd roaring him on. The Odds are too good here to refuse for a man who’s been playing some great darts over the tournament.

#WhatOddsPaddy – 1 or more 180s in each of the first three legs

At 5/1 (at the time of writing) we’re getting a decent offer from the #WhatOddsPaddy market. Aspinall will play aggressively as always and will be going for the 180s. We’ve mentioned already his averages over the tournament, landing 37 so far.

Jonny Clayton scores far fewer 180s when compared to him but he’s still thrown 4, 3, 7 and 4 over the tournament so far. We can expect then a decent chance of seeing at least one 180 thrown in each of the first three legs.
