Saturday, January 28th, the Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers will play the first of two scheduled contests. Denver will host the second contest on March 27th.

Both teams last played Wednesday with the shorthanded Nuggets losing 99-107 to the Bucks while the 76ers won a 137-133 shoot-out versus their rivals the Nets.

Last season, the teams played twice each winning on the opposing court. The 76ers hold the all-time record having bested the Nuggets in 52 of their 94 matches.

*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Friday, evening, January 27th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Saturday, January 28th.

Denver Nuggets

Although Wednesday was a game many super fans had circled for the MVP matchup between Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic the latter was out dealing with a sore hamstring.

In addition, starters Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., and Kentavious Caldwell Pope all were out as well so the fact the game was as close as eight points speaks to the fight of this squad.

Stats

Denver possesses the best offense in the league highlighted by scoring 116.5 points per game ranking eighth while shooting the second-best field goal percent of 50.7% effectiveness and the top-ranked perimeter efficiency of 39.5%.

To be sure, defensively the Nuggets are improving. So far, they allow opponents to score 112.4 points per game which ranks 12th while limiting foes to 47.8% from the field and 34.7% from deep ranking 23rd and sixth respectively.

On the positive side, Nikola Jokic (hamstring) and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (wrist) were upgraded to probable but the negatives are multiple with Jamal Murray (knee), Bruce Brown (knee), and Michael Porter Jr. (personal) all questionable for Saturday.

Jack White (leg) is out while Collin Gillespie (leg fracture) is out indefinitely.

Philadelphia 76ers

The Ben Simmons – James Harden trade is the gift that keeps on giving. Prior to that deal, there wasn’t really much of a rivalry between Philly and Brooklyn but with Simmons and Harden seemingly locked into their franchises for the near future it sets up copious battles.

Stats

This season, the 76ers score an average of 114.6 points per game ranking 13th. Philly shoots 48.2% from the field and 38.2% from the perimeter, ranking seventh and fourth respectively.

Defense is where the 76ers make their mark allowing the fourth-fewest opponent points per game with 110.7  while ranking 13th on opponent field goal percent of 47.2% and the second-best on the perimeter as foes shoot 34.5% from deep.

With Jokic expected back, the question is whether Philly’s big man will play as Joel Embiid (foot) is listed as questionable.

Jaden Springer (illness) and Furkan Korkmaz (shoulder) were both upgraded to probable to play Saturday.

Free Denver Nuggets vs. Philadelphia 76ers NBA Prediction:

Embiid and Jokic are the confirmed starting centers in the All-Star Game but just like fans were excited to see Joker play Giannis they might be disappointed in this game as Joel is questionable.

The fact he’s on every report as ‘questionable’ means the plantar fasciitis is an issue and the only thing that truly heals that injury is resting (and not a game or two – we’re talking weeks off your feet).

Philly is playing their best ball of the season but if Joker and Murray play I prefer the Nuggets but if they’re down three or four players again it’ll be tough. Either way, I’ll take the points.
