When looking at the MLB standings, the Tigers come in just 5.5 games behind the first-place Cleveland Guardians, and the Mariners come in six games behind the first-place Texas Rangers.

When looking at the season that the Seattle Mariners have had, it’s easy to see why this team hasn’t been the team that they were hoping to be coming into the year.
The Seattle Mariners last game before the All-Star break was impressive as they were able to come away with a huge 3-1 win against the Houston Astros and won three out of four against arguably the best team in baseball. They did so behind some good pitching performances and elite hitting.
Logan Gilbert got the start for them in that game, and he’s been one of the best arms in the league this year. He enters play with a 3.66 ERA and a WHIP below one.
The Detroit Tigers schedule won’t be easy for them coming out of the gate as they have to take on this impressive Mariners team, but again, the Tigers aren’t as bad as many might think that they possibly are.
They aren’t necessarily the best team in baseball, still 11 games under .500, but with only being 5.5 games behind the first-place Cleveland Guardians, the Tigers find themselves in a good position.

The Detroit Tigers also have a decent arm on the mound, as Eduardo Rodriguez is going to get the start for them. Rodriguez is one of the better arms in baseball, and when he’s on the mound, the Tigers are showing some impressive MLB stats.
He enters play with a 2.64 ERA and a WHIP of just 1. If he can replicate that type of success against a tough Mariners lineup, they’re going to find themselves in a good position in this game.
