Our U19 Rugby came from 26-0 down at half time to score three second half tries in the Mungret Cup Final last Thursday in Ballincollig RFC, but it was not enough to deny Coláiste Pobal Bantry back-to-back wins in this competition.

In our first Mungret Cup final appearance, the High School was keen to upset the odds against a Bantry side that beat us in the Senior Cup qualifier final in December. However, Coláiste Pobal scored four first half tries that presented the High School with a mammoth task in the second half.
To their credit, the High School took the game to Bantry scoring three almost identical tries in close quarters action from the forwards following lineouts in the Bantry 22.

The High School tries came from Tom Noonan, Ben Masuku and Luke Slattery.

Bantry added two tries of their own to seal their win.

The High School can take great heart from their performance playing to the final whistle against a quality Bantry side boasting two current Irish Youths players in their backline.

The old saying is true: a team must lose a final to win one and with the bulk of this High School team in TY and 5th Year, the experience will stand to them next season.

It was the final game for the 6th Years on our team and we acknowledge their commitment for the past five or six years and wish them the very best in their Leaving Cert exams in June.
