Doncaster Mile at Randwick Tips, Race Previews and Selections

The Championships Day 1 hits its peak when a capacity field steps out for the $4 million Doncaster Mile.

Winx, More Joyous and Sunline are but a few of the horses to be named Doncaster Mile winner since the turn of the century, and another galloper will join the incredible list at Royal Randwick on Saturday.

I’ve run the rule over the entire field, and you can find my complete 2023 Doncaster Mile Tips below.

Suggested Bets

  • 3 Units E/W #1 Alligator Blood
  • Boxed Trifecta of the selections below

Doncaster Mile – Winner

He has been charged with carrying topweight, but Alligator Blood remains the best horse in the 2023 Doncaster Mile field in my opinion, and the $11 about him at publish is overs.

The five-time Group 1 winner returned with a bold performance and win in the Futurity Stakes, and he was fair when fourth, beaten just over a length in the All-Star Mile.

I absolutely love that Timmy Clark is jumping back into the saddle this week, and he’ll be in this for a long way.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Alligator Blood

Doncaster Mile – 2nd

Mr Brightside really does look a great chance of being the first back-to-back Doncaster Mile winner since Sacred Falls, and the booking of Zac Purton adds further confidence this year!

Mr Brightside realised his Group 1 potential with a stunning win in this race last autumn, and while he didn’t return to winning form at the highest level in spring, he was still gallant in some of Australia’s best races.

His last two performances, including an eye-catching win in the All-Star Mile, suggested that he might be in career-best form, and he is a fitting favourite in early Doncaster Mile betting.

Suggested Bet: No. 2 Mr Brightside

Doncaster Mile – 3rd

I’d have had her close to Alligator Blood and Mr Brightside if she’d drawn an alley, but I am worried about how much work Fangirl is going to have to do from out wide (barrier 19).

Regardless, the Group 1 winner has returned three typically excellent performances this time in, running into Anamoe on all three occasions, and finishing second at her last two, including the George Ryder.

The mile is perfect, Joao Moreira rides and if she does get a bit of luck, she certainly wouldn’t look out of place in the Doncaster Mile winner’s stall.

Suggested Bet: No. 5 Fangirl

Doncaster Mile – 4th

An extremely interesting runner in the Doncaster Mile field this year is Going Global, who is on debut in Australia.

Going Global has been a consistent performer over in the United States during the early stages of her career, recording ten wins and a further three minors from seventeen starts.

She’s a Group 1 winner, has also tasted success in multiple Group 2 contests and rarely returns a poor effort.

Brenton Avdulla rides from barrier 4, and Going Global is up at Doncaster Mile odds of $41 at publish!

Suggested Bet: No. 6 Going Global
