Australia did well in the World Cup in November/December of 2022 to reach the knockout stages but were just dumped out of the competition by the eventual champions Argentina, 2-1.
Australia weren't necessarily close to actually winning that tie as they were also gifted a goal, as Enzo Fernandez put the ball into his own net to give the Aussies a chance in the final 15 minutes or so.

Despite getting plenty of chances to put the game to bed after equalising in the 41st minute, they just couldn't find the winner after Arsenal's Oleksandr Zinchenko surprisingly put the hosts in front.
Ukraine managed two shots all game but still managed to hold on to gain a valuable point against England.
Against Australia it might be a similar story for the Three Lions in the sense that they can make plenty of chances. Especially as it follows their last friendly which saw England dominate Scotland to win 3-1, and again supressing a side to not find the target, as Harry Maguire scored an own goal.
Jude Bellingham has been continuing to score for both club and country from midfield and looks dangerous if making the starting lineup here.
But as always Harry Kane, who also scored against Scotland will take the addition to the PYP as he's been on fire in the Bundesliga and internationally.
He's netted eight goals from just seven appearances for Bayern in the league, another goal in the Champions League along with five assists in those games as well.
He has a similar strike-rate for England in the EURO Qualifiers which have featured this year and gets another go at a decent international friendly clash.
In friendlies, Kane has scored seven goals from 14 appearances but has only not scored in friendlies where he's not played 70+ minutes, which he will likely get against Australia.
Even with a much more important game coming against Italy on Tuesday night, but it offers plenty of time for recovery and still a few substitutions across the game, which Gareth Southgate often utilises - making all five against Scotland for instance.
The big blow for England this break is Bukayo Saka's absence due to an injury but the squad looks strong on club form alone and still has a plethora of attacking options.
James Maddison could play a starring role in midfield with his Tottenham form doing a lot for his chances of more minutes for England.
