England vs Chile prediction and odds: Rugby World Cup 2023

We have a top versus bottom clash in Pool D on Saturday afternoon as England and Chile go head to head for the first time. The 2003 Rugby World Cup Champions have a 100% record in the tournament after wins over Argentina and Japan, whilst Chile, competing in their first Rugby World Cup, have been beaten by Samoa and Japan. This could be an entertaining evening with England selecting an attacking line-up for the clash at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, Lille.

England vs Chile match predictions

With two wins from two and their captain returning from suspension, the stars could well be aligning for England to dish out a big victory on Saturday.

England to win with a -49 point handicap @ 1/1 (2.00)

Although Chile have held their own, scoring the first try in both games before losing 42-12 and 43-10, and England have not set the tournament alight with their victories by 27-10 and 34-12, Stuart Lancaster has selected a very attacking team with Owen Farrell at fly-half and the exciting Marcus Smith at full-back. Now this approach may leave England a little vulnerable in defence, but we still expect them to rack up over 50 points more than tournament newcomers, Chile,  in Lille.

Henry Arundell to be first try scorer @ 5/1 (6.00)

England think they have the next big thing in the talented back but there are still question marks if he is ready to take the international game by storm. Still, against one of if not the weakest side in the tournament, the 20 year old has the perfect opportunity to mark his rugby world cup debut with some points. His team-mates will be keen to get the ball to him early in this game and we are backing him to be the first to find the line on Saturday in Lille.

England on the march, Chile making up the numbers

England have won six pool stage rugby world cup games in a row – the longest active run of any side. They should be way too strong for the South Americans.

England

Steve Borthwick’s side came into the tournament with some former players expecting England to be heading home at the end of the pool stage. And they looked set to be spot on when England were reduced to 14-men in their opening match. But that red card has brought together a siege mentality and England now look likely to win the group and potentially get a comfortable ride to the semi-finals.

England last five:

England 34-12 Japan

England 27-10 Argentina

England 22-30 Fiji

Ireland 29-10 England

England 19-17 Wales

Chile

The Condors have impressed with their grit and organisation but we expect them to be found wanting in this match. They have been able to trade punches in the early stages in Pool D but we anticipate this game will be a match too far.

Chile last five:

Samoa 43-10 Chile

Japan 42-12 Chile

Chile 26-28 Namibia

Uruguay 26-25 Chile

Tonga 29-10 Chile
