England vs Wales Betting Tips: Red Rose To Gain Revenge

A week on from a Welsh triumph in Cardiff when these two sides met at the Principality Stadium, England and Wales clash once again in the build up to the Rugby World Cup in France next month. Twickenham will be the host venue this Saturday and Steve Borthwick's men are favoured to gain redemption after a disappointing 20-9 loss last weekend.

Plenty of changes have been made by both coaches and as such the odds compilers are heavily favouriting the Red Rose. Billy Grimshaw has scoured the odds grids and has a couple of punts worth backing for this important trial game as both national teams gear up for the World Cup...

England vs Wales Tips

As is their right with the biggest tournament in World Rugby just around the corner, the coaches make changes aplenty in these build-up games as they test out new combinations and get minutes into the legs of their entire squad. Nevertheless, those who bought tickets for this game a while ago will no doubt feel a pang of disappointment at the sheer volume of changes Warren Garland in particular has made to the Welsh side.

All fifteen starters from last weekend have made way for Wales and a host of debutants and inexperienced players will don the shirt against a strong England side. The Welsh also have a new captain in Dewi Lake, who is as passionate a Welshman as it comes judging by his tearful reaction when captaining the U20 side to victory against New Zealand four years ago. Wales will as always give everything to topple their most hated foes, but with such a new look side England should be able to secure the win fairly comfortably in front of an expectant 82,000 strong crowd.

The defeat in Cardiff has clearly stung Steve Borthwick and his camp as he has recalled plenty of his stars for this match, despite a busy schedule of friendlies coming up. Owen Farrell is back along with Billy Vunipola and Maro Itoje which represents a switch back to something like the strongest team Borthwick can field. Although not quite as drastic as Gatland switching his whole starting team, England have made 11 changes in total themselves and most look an upgrade. With Wales's squad looking like a B team and England smarting from the Cardiff defeat and bringing back the big guns, the handicap line of 13 looks very achievable for the home team.

England -13 (Handicap)

There is plenty of variety in the prices betting sites are offering for most players to score a try.at Twickenham, but one that I could not resist was Saracens' flanker Ben Earl to cross the whitewash at 10/3 with Unibet. Priced at just 7/4 elsewhere, which looks more like the correct price to my eye, Earl will be itching to impress and cement himself finally as a Red Rose starter.

He has 15 England caps already but this will be his first start at flanker. Earl is well known by Premiership fans as a hard worker that pops up all over the field when Saracens are defending and the 25 year old will be itching to get involved in the action at every opportunity here to stake his claim to Borthwick and the coaches.

As well as his high work-rate, Earl is also an adept line runner and with classy ball players in the England side he can be expected to be put through a gap or two at Twickenham as the game becomes more stretched. I expect England to dominate the game and the ball so there'll be ample opportunity for Earl to get on the shoulder of one of the half backs who will be looking for gaps in the Welsh defence. 10/3 for a man with four tries in six starts in the European Champions Cup looks a couple of points too big and that wager will complete the staking plan.
