The first day of the 2021 Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar ended in bizarre fashion. The start of Juvenile Turf was delayed for 17 minutes because of a gate controversy. Modern Games, in the No. 1 gate, reared up and was released out of front of gate. Albahr, his stablemate, also recharged and tipped onto his back. Both horses were scratched. It was the first race of Modern Game's career. He was running in his first American race. Fans booed him. Tiz the Bomb, trained by Ken McPeek, was top-finishing horse and paid $17.60.
