Ex-Northeastern star thwarts Bruins in preseason loss to Sabres

Former Northeastern goalie Devon Levi gave the Bruins a first-hand look at why the Sabres are so excited about the rookie’s potential.

The Sabres took a 3-0 lead before Oskar Steen scored with the goalie pulled with 2:03 remaining, but Filip Cederqvist scored an empty-net goal with three seconds left to seal the Sabres’ win.

Some noteworthy takeaways for the Bruins:

  • After giving Brandon Bussi the whole game to record the shutout on Sunday, the Bruins split time in goal between Kyle Keyser and Michael DiPietro. Keyser stopped 22 shots and gave up two goals in the first half of the game, while DiPietro had 12 saves, while allowing one goal before being pulled for the final three minutes.
  • Rookie Mason Lohrei, who the Bruins hope will mature into a top-pair defenseman down the road, played nearly half the game - 29 minutes, 1 second including 3:30 on the power play and 2:14 killing penalties. He took two shots and blocked two shots.
  • Marc McLaughlin, who is competing for a spot in Boston had eight wins in 14 faceoffs.
