Ex-Yankees captain Don Mattingly offered ‘different’ role with Marlins, isn’t ready to retire

On Sept. 25, Don Mattingly announced that he and the Miami Marlins mutually agreed that he would not manage the team in 2023. But it seems like he’s planning on sticking around the sport.

Mattingly said he has spoken to Bruce Sherman about different role and he is “humbled” that Sherman values his opinion. “Nothing off the table” but nothing agreed to,, either. Mattingly could always surface with another team. He’s not retiring

Before joining the Marlins, Mattingly was the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers for five seasons, winning three straight National League West division titles. But he was never able to get the Dodgers over the hump and eventually was replaced by Dave Roberts, who led L.A. to a World Series title in 2020.
