Exeter vs. Middlesbrough Odds, Predictions & Betting Tips

The League Cup Round of 16 commences on Tuesday evening with two of the eight ties taking place. Exeter welcome Middlesbrough to St James Park as the League Two side take on Championship opposition and we’ve previewed the action and provided you with our best bets.

The Grecians have the chance to reach the last-eight of this competition for the first time in their history. Gary Caldwell’s side have already seen off Crawley Town, Stevenage, and most recently Luton Town in this latest renewal of the League Cup and can be backed at 13/8 to advance to the quarter finals.

Credit to the Middlesbrough fans who will make the 674 mile round trip to Devon on Tuesday. Michael Carrick’s three wins in this competition this season have all come away from home with victories over Huddersfield, Bolton and Bradford. This will be Boro’s first ever competitive meeting with Exeter, with the visitors chalked-up at 4/9 to qualify.

Exeter vs. Middlesbrough Tips

Prior to last weekend Middlesbrough had won seven consecutive games across all competitions before they were beaten 2-0 at home by Stoke City. This was the first time in 10 outings that they had failed to find the net, and after a shaky start to the campaign they have rose to 10th in the second-tier table, leaving them three points from the play-offs.

Exeter’s only win in their last ten matches came in the League Cup when a solitary Demetri Mitchell goal gave them a 1-0 win over Premier League opposition in Luton. Gary Caldwell’s men did manage a point at home to Lincoln on Saturday, however they had failed to score in their four consecutive defeats that came before the meeting with The Imps.

We have two teams here in contrasting form over the last two months, and even though the hosts will be well up for this one, the two-division gap between Middlesbrough and Exeter may be evident on the pitch and we are surprised to see 4/5 available for them to get the win inside 90 minutes.

Middlesbrough -1 Match Handicap & Latte Lath to Score

At 17/4 via the Bet Builder feature on Sky bet, we have also had a few quid on Middlesbrough to win the match by two or more goals with a -1 match handicap, and have also included Emmanuel Latte Lath to score anytime.

We’ve mentioned already how we think the visitors will come out on top and we have confidence that they can do so by a two or more goal margin.

Ivorian striker Emmanuel Latte Lath scored 14 league goals in the Swiss Super League for St Gallen last season and has two already in the Championship for his new employers despite limited game-time due to injury.

Latte Lath was also on target in the last round of the League Cup when scoring in the previous round of the League Cup in the 2-0 win over Bradford. Albeit a small sample size Latte Lath averages 4.25 shots per game across his four Championship starts this season and combining him with the -1 Match Handicap for his side pays 17/4 with Skybet.
