The UConn Huskies cut down the nets a year ago, and they are right in the mix once again. There’s no denying that this year’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Champion race is pretty wide open. There isn’t a dominant team.
The blue blood programs are all looking formidable in 2023-24, with Duke, Kansas, Michigan State and Kentucky all top-10 betting favorites to win it all.
We do like one of the blue bloods to get it done next March, as the Michigan State Spartans are our best bet selection. Meanwhile, Mick Cronin’s UCLA Bruins show promise and we believe they will be a threat by year’s end.
The preseason No. 1 overall team is the defending champion LSU Tigers, led by Angel Reese. The Tigers have brought in transfers Hailey Van Lith and Aneesah Morrow to help reinforce their attempt at back-to-back titles.
We like LSU by a wide margin. That’s not to say another team like UConn, Iowa or our longshot pick, Virginia Tech, can’t dethrone LSU. However, Reese and Van Lith together are going to be hard to stop.
Purdue big man Zach Edey is favored to win his second-straight Wooden Award and it makes sense. College basketball is older than it’s ever been, and we don’t see a scenario in which Edey doesn’t dominate like he did in 2022-23.
Other bigs like Kyle Filipowski, Hunter Dickinson and Donovan Clingan are amongst the next crop of betting favorites. Although, it’s Marquette floor general Tyler Kolek who we have as our longshot bet to win the 2024 Wooden Award.
