Last year's women's basketball tournament delivered plenty of compelling drama, ending with the LSU Tigers capturing their first title in program history. We have seen the start of the 2023-24 campaign serve as an impressive encore, with multiple upsets occurring in the opening week.

While LSU leads the way as the betting favorite to repeat, is it worth exploring other options down the board?

Here is a look at the 2024 Women's March Madness market (odds via our best March Madness betting sites).

Women's March Madness odds movement

The top of this oddsboard is particularly interesting, with LSU sitting as the betting favorite at three of the four best sportsbooks.

DraftKings is the lone shop putting UConn as the favorite, meaning that's the place to go for the best odds on LSU to repeat.

Women's March Madness favorite 2024

Despite a 92-78 loss to Colorado in the season opener, LSU remains the betting favorite in this market. The Tigers have a favorable slate of games in the coming weeks to get right before hosting Virginia Tech on Nov. 30 in their next big test.

Junior forward Angel Reese is averaging a double-double to lead the team in the early part of the season. Hailey Van Lith transferred in from Louisville to give the Tigers more firepower in the backcourt in their quest to repeat as champions.

For what it's worth, we haven't seen a team win back-to-back titles in women's college basketball since 2016.

Women's March Madness odds 2024: Contender

It might seem difficult to believe, but the Connecticut women's basketball program hasn't won a national title since 2016. The Huskies were once considered the dominant force in this sport, but there have been six different champions since the last time they cut down the nets.

This year's UConn team has a chance to get the program back on top. Forward Aaliyah Edwards is averaging over 20 points per game, while guard Paige Bueckers (2021 Wooden Award winner) is back after missing last season due to a torn ACL.

Like LSU, UConn suffered an early-season setback by losing at NC State. The Huskies don't have as favorable of an upcoming stretch, so we should learn a lot more about their fortitude in the near future.

Women's March Madness odds 2024: Long shot

While this sport hasn't typically produced a ton of long shots, the early 2023-24 results have been more encouraging when it comes to teams further down the oddsboard. As such, this should be a market worth exploring throughout the season.

Still, it's hard not to zero in on this 9/1 price tag for Iowa. Caitlin Clark proved last year that she's the best player in the sport, and capable of carrying a team on a deep run. Iowa made it all the way to the title game before the dream season came to an end.

Clark is already pacing all players in win shares, according to Her Hoop Stats. The potential No. 1 pick in next year's WNBA draft is certainly worth backing this season.
