The reigning Super Bowl champions return to action today against the Saints, who failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2022, the first time since 2008 they had missed the postseason in consecutive years.
Under head coach Andy Reid, one of only two active coaches to lead their teams to multiple Super Bowl wins, the Chiefs remain the team to beat in the AFC West, having won the division in each of the last seven seasons.
NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes will sit out this preseason clash at the Mercedez-Benz Superdome, so veteran backup Blaine Gabbert may get a large piece of the action. The Chiefs will also test out their new offensive coordinator Matt Nagy after his promotion following the 2023 Super Bowl.
Meanwhile, New Orleans has a new man at QB, having added Derek Carr from the Las Vegas Raiders after a 7-10 season. How much Carr plays today, if at all, remains to be seen.
Saints fans may get their first proper look at rookie running back Kendre Miller, who will be looking to impress with Alvin Kamara suspended to start the season, as well as free-agent acquisition Jamaal Williams.
