Fans fume at 'lopsided' All Ireland Football Championship draws

The draw has been made for the All-Ireland Football Championship and some fans are not happy.

As revealed on RTE Radio's Saturday Sport, the draw for the Provincial Championships has been confirmed and counties from all four provinces now know what they have to do as they begin the hunt for the Sam Maguire Cup.

Here is the confirmed draw for the provincial Championships:

Ulster Quarter-Finals

Tyrone v Monaghan/Cavan

Down v Antrim

Fermanagh v Armagh

Derry v Donegal

Munster Semi-Finals

Clare v Tipperary/Waterford

Limerick/Cork v Kerry

Leinster Quarter-Finals

Kildare v Westmeath/Wicklow

Louth v Carlow/Wexford

Dublin v Longford/Meath

Offaly v Laois

Connacht Semi-Finals

New York/Mayo v Roscommon

Sligo/Leitrim v London/Galway

Much of the fury has come from Ulster GAA fans who are unhappy with the 'lopsided' nature of the draw. As per the open seeding nature of the draw, much of the so-called favourites for the Anglo-Celt Cup have been drawn on one side with some of the underdogs on the other.

This means that one of Down, Antrim, Fermanagh and Armagh will reach the final from the easier side of the draw, while only one of Derry, Donegal, Monaghan, Cavan and Tyrone will reach the showpiece event.

Many fans are not happy at the difference in apparent strength between the two halves of the draw.

"That’s a lopsided draw (like the Rugby World Cup) with 4 of the best 5 teams on one side and Armagh on the other," said one X user.

While another said, "Cavan just need to beat Monaghan, Tyrone, Derry, and Armagh to try and win Ulster next year. How lopsided..."

"Lop sided draw that...be hard to emerge from bottom half," said another.

Others believe there should be a seeding system in place that would see the top teams avoid each other in the early rounds of the Championship, "any chance a bit of cop on could prevail and seed it."

While there hasn't been too much ire directed at the draws for the other three provincial Championships, many supporters have complained that there is a general sense of apathy surrounding the Championship as a whole.

"Tyrone and Monaghan again. Getting boring now," said one user.

Another simply wrote "Another year of boreball ahead."

"Years ago there was great excitement when these draws came around , now the excitement levels are the same as getting the lawnmower out of the shed to mow the Grass," wrote another.
