Fans stunned as McIlroy hits 375-YARD 'shot of the year' for walk-off eagle

RORY McILROY hit a shot of the year contender with a walk-off eagle that left fans absolutely stunned.

The Northern Irishman has long been one of the most impressive golfers around and has a habit of pulling an outstanding shot out of the bag.

But few could have seen his near perfect 375-yard drive in the 2023 Match Play Championship coming.

The competition sees golfers go head-to-head and compete directly against one another and McIlroy was paired off with Denny McCarthy.

The American fought boldly with McIlroy and their match reached the 18th hole with McCarthy just one shot behind.

But his chances were soon blown out of the water as McIlroy hit a shot that left fans placing it among some of the best they have seen.

The 33-year-old's extraordinary drive went 141 foot in the air and travelled at almost 200mph.

It fell three feet and nine inches from the hole, leaving the crowd in awe and and the Sky Sports commentators raving about his talent.

With McIlroy needing only a simple putt to win the hole, McCarthy conceded the match and the Northern Irishman finished two-up.

Fans lavished the golf star with praise after his fantastic shot.

It is less than two weeks before the prestigious Masters begins and McIlroy will be looking to win the tournament for the first time ever after finishing 2nd in 2022.
