Five key runners for the Cambridgeshire meeting at Newmarket

Andy Stephens selects a handful of horses to keep in mind at Newmarket's Cambridgeshire Meeting this week. There are six days of racing at the New market between now and October 8. The three-day Cambs meeting gets under way on Thursday. Harry Allwood has suggested a couple of bets for the headline race.

Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes takes place at 3.00 on Saturday.

Blackbeard won five of his seven races this season. He won the Group One Prix Morny at the expense of Persian Force and The Antarctic. U S Navy Flag won this prize for Aidan O'Brien in 2017. O’Brien has had only four winners at Headquarters since 2020. He has a strike-rate of 7.2 per cent at Newmarket.

Royal Scandal is bred/owned by Tim Vestey and trained by James Fanshawe. She has had three starts and won twice on the all-weather and was beaten at Doncaster. Her dam Sea Of Approval had also won on all weather and suffered a reverse at Town Moor. Royal Scandals is entered in the Fillies & Mares race on Friday at 4.45.

Saxon Warrior had his first Group winner as a sire in France at the weekend. Rage Of Bambi may provide him with another. She won her first two starts at Newbury and Leicester for Eve Johnson Houghton. Olivia Maralda and Commissioning are the opposition for the Rowley Mile at Cambridgeshire meeting at NYF.

The Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes takes place at 1.50 on Saturday.
