Forgotten former Premier League striker and 85-cap international signs for seventh-tier Scottish side Johnstone Burgh

FORMER Burnley and Norwich star Kyle Lafferty has signed for Scottish seventh-tier side Johnstone Burgh.

The 35-year-old penned a two-year deal with the club this week.

Upon his arrival, Lafferty said: "I'm excited, I've watched the lads training this week and I was impressed with some of the players.

"We've got a great young team and obviously adding a few experienced players like me will help them.

"Hopefully come the end of the season we'll be celebrating."

Lafferty joins his former Rangers team-mate Graham Dorrans at the PDM Buildbase First Division club.

He added: "It came about with Graham Dorrans, I'd seen him signing here.

"He spoke to me in great lengths about the project that they have in place here.

"Obviously, speaking to the gaffer as well, everything I've been told about the club and where they want to go, I want to be a part of that project."

Johnstone Burgh will be the 16th club Lafferty has represented.

The forward kicked off his professional career with Burnley in 2005.

He joined Rangers in a permanent transfer in 2008 following a loan spell with Darlington and spent four years at Ibrox before joining Swiss side Sion.

He then spent a season with Palermo before returning to England to sign for Norwich, where he made his first - and only - Premier League appearance.

Lafferty has also played for Hearts and Sunderland.

The forward retired from international duty last summer following an impressive 16-year spell with Northern Ireland.
