Former Bruins center signs with Devils

Tomas Nosek had hoped to stay in Boston, but the Bruins didn’t have a spot for him.

So their fourth-line center from Czechia, who was valuable on penalty kills and faceoffs, signed a one-year contract with the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.

Nosek, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound pivot, will count for $1 million against the Devils’ salary cap.

Nosek had seven goals and 11 assists in 66 games for the Bruins and was a plus-9 in his second season in Boston, after stints in Detroit and Las Vegas. The 18 points matched his career high. He won 59.3 percent of his draws in 2022-23, which was seventh in the NHL.

Nosek’s departure, which was expected, means Charlie Coyle could be the Bruins’ only regular center from last season filling that role in Boston in 2023-24. Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci are both contemplating retirement. Pavel Zacha is expected to move to center. Restricted free agent Trent Frederic could also slide from wing to the middle. The Bruins also signed Morgan Geekie and Patrick Brown, who can play center as well.
