former England striker lands £100,000 winner days after passing of his good friend

Mick Channon's horse won the Cambridgeshire handicap at Newmarket on Saturday. It was a bittersweet moment for Channan as it came just days after the passing of his friend Henry Ponsonby. Channa is the all-time leading scorer for Southampton and has earned more than £3.3m on the Flat in Britain over the past five seasons. He almost won £4.5m with his stable star Youmzain. Henry died on Thursday 15th September. A celebration of Henry's life will be held in Lambourn on October 20th.
