Former footballer Joe Thompson says 'miracles do happen' as he shares family's baby joy after cancer battles

Joe Thompson and his wife Chantelle are expecting a baby in August. They lost their son Dre last year. Joe had twice battled cancer and retired in 2019. He made 182 appearances for Rochdale, scoring 19 goals. He is best remembered for his goal against Charlton Athletic in May 2018. His goal sent Rotherham Athletic down to League Two. The former Manchester United youth player also played for Tranmere Rovers and Bury. he made his debut in 2006. and signed professional terms in 2007. In March 2017 he confirmed that the cancer had returned and he underwent a stem cell transplant.
