Former Premier League Champions Make Excellent Start to Championship Campaign

Leicester City produced one of the biggest upsets in the history of professional sport in the 2015/16 campaign when they won the Premier League title. They were +50000 outsiders with the bookmakers that year, but under manager Claudio Ranieri they overcame the giants of English football to lift the title.

The Foxes, who are a popular team with many football supporters in Mysuri, now find themselves in the Championship, the second tier of the pyramid in England, due to relegation from the Premier League last season. However, it may not be long before they return to the top flight of English football.

Favorites To Win Championship Title

After four victories from their opening five campaign in the league this season, Leicester have Championship odds today of +310. They are top of the betting ahead of Southampton, Ipswich Town, and Leeds United respectively.

In the promotion betting, Leicester has football odds of -125 to return to the Premier League at the first attempt. Their only defeat across the opening five matches was a 1-0 home loss to Hull City.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is the Foxes’ joint-highest goalscorer to date, and the midfielder has arguably been one of Leicester’s most impressive stars. The 25-year-old has a lot of experience in the Premier League, and he was one of the players who opted to remain with the club, despite relegation.

Another player has who shone so far in the Championship this season is Harry Winks. The Englishman signed from Tottenham during the summer, and he has started every game so far this season for the Midlands-based club.

Enzo Maresca Makes Strong Start to Managerial Career

Back in June, Leicester appointed Enzo Maresca as their new manager on a three-year-year contract. The Italian was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City last season. He played his part in helping the club win the treble, including the UEFA Champions League.

This is not Maresca’s first taste of managerial responsibility. He was in charge of Parma for 14 games in Serie B. Unfortunately for the former midfielder, that spell did not go as well as both parties would have wanted.

Maresca was named the Championship Manager of the Month for August. Leicester fans have been very happy with the attacking style of football their side has played under their new boss this season. They will be hoping all the skills he learned from Guardiola will help him during his latest role.

Southampton and Leeds Looking to Join Leicester

After finishing in the bottom three of last season’s Premier League table, Southampton and Leeds join Leicester in the Championship this year. They too have a rich history in the top-flight and will be keen to make a quick return.

Southampton are just outside the play-offs after five winning three of their five games, while Leeds have made a less impressive start, prevailing in just one of their opening five matches.

The final fixtures in the 2023/24 Championship weekend are set to feature on May 4.

Leicester will be hoping they are one of the teams to have booked their spot in the Premier League at the end of that afternoon.
