Former Seton Hall star Adrian Griffin among finalists for Milwaukee Bucks coaching opening

Former-Seton Hall star Adrian Griffin is one of three finalists for the Milwaukee Bucks head coaching job, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Former Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse, who won a title there in 2019, and Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson are the other candidates who will have “final conversations with Milwaukee leadership this week,” per Woj.

The Bucks fired Mike Budenolzer after they lost as the top seed in the Eastern Conference to the No. 8 Miami Heat, who are now up 3-0 on the No. 2 Boston Celtics in the conference finals. Budenolzer led the Bucks to the NBA championship in 2021.

Griffin, 48, is currently an assistant with the Toronto Raptors and was in the mix for the Jazz job last year.

Griffin played at Seton Hall from 1992-96 before launching a professional career that included nine seasons in the NBA. He has served as an assistant coach for the Bucks, Chicago Bull, Orlando Magic, Oklahoma City Thunder and Raptors.

His younger son, A.J. Griffin, just finished his rookie season with the Atlanta Hawks, while his daughter Aubrey plays at UConn and his elder son Alan played at Illinois and Syracuse.

A number of Seton Hall alums are currently Division 1 head coaches, including UConn coach Dan Hurley, the newly minted national champion, Seton Hall’s Shaheen Holloway, Wagner’s Donald Copeland, NJIT’s Grant Billmeier and Binghamton’s Levell Sanders.
