France

France would be a solid team if it played in its fighting lineup. We won't see several players for various reasons because of NHL. KHL player Stephane Da Costa isn't coming. They were neither in 2022, but the Frenchmen retained their place in the elite division. Before the Ming tournament, Philippe Bozon's charges played several friendlies. They lost to the Swiss 1-2 and 0-6, won 4-3 and 2-1 over the Slovenians, beat the Norwegians 4-3, and then failed 1-4.

Austria

Austria is another team struggling to keep their place. In 2022, they outdid themselves. They were powerful in the beginning handling Sweden 1-3. Then the team lost in overtime to the Americans 2-3 and crashed the Czechs 2-1. After that, the results went down, and they didn't reach the playoffs, but the sixth place in the group was perfect for the Austrians. At the 2023 World Cup, they also contend for a good position, but the lineup troubles may not let them. The absence of Marco Kasper, who made his NHL debut this season, is incredibly disappointing.
